MY BIBLE STORY
Abraham (first called Abram) lived in a place called Ur. One day, God spoke to Abraham and said:
"Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing." (Genesis 12:1-2 NKJV)
Even though Abraham didn't know where he was going, he obeyed God. He packed up everything and took his wife Sarah (first called Sarai) and his nephew Lot and began traveling to a new land.
God promised Abraham that he would have as many descendants as the stars in the sky! But Abraham and Sarah were very old and didn't have any children yet.
"Then He brought him outside and said, 'Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.' And He said to him, 'So shall your descendants be.'" (Genesis 15:5 NKJV)
Abraham believed God's promise even though it seemed impossible. Finally, when Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90, God gave them a son named Isaac, just as He had promised.
God tested Abraham's faith by asking him to sacrifice Isaac. Abraham was willing to obey God completely, but at the last moment, God provided a ram to sacrifice instead.
"And Abraham called the name of the place, The-LORD-Will-Provide." (Genesis 22:14 NKJV)
Abraham's faith and obedience pleased God very much.
SCRIPTURE TREASURE
