WEEK 3: JOSEPH

Faithful Through Trials (Genesis 37-50)

Joseph: From Pit to Palace

MY BIBLE STORY

Joseph was Jacob's favorite son. His father gave him a beautiful coat of many colors, which made his brothers jealous.

"Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many colors." (Genesis 37:3 NKJV)

Joseph had special dreams from God showing that one day his family would bow down to him. When he told his brothers about these dreams, they became very angry.

One day, Joseph's brothers threw him into a deep pit. Then they sold him as a slave to traders going to Egypt.

In Egypt, Joseph worked hard for a man named Potiphar. Joseph did what was right, even though he was a slave.

"The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man." (Genesis 39:2 NKJV)

When Potiphar's wife told lies about Joseph, he was sent to prison. But even in prison, Joseph trusted God and helped others. Later, he explained Pharaoh's dreams which showed seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine.

Pharaoh was so impressed with Joseph's wisdom that he made him second in command over all Egypt! During the famine, Joseph's brothers came to Egypt looking for food. Joseph forgave them and saved his whole family.

"But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive." (Genesis 50:20 NKJV)
